Nielson Construction works on the road up Rilda Canyon to the Emery Mining portal. |
Work has begun on the widening of the Rilda Canyon road. The road leads to the Rilda portal of the Deer Creek Mine. There is an intake fan at the site. The road project will include paving and work will continue through the summer, approximately another two months.
The Rilda project by Emery Mining was scaled back from its original purportions. No impact is anticipated to the Rilda Spring. Any runoff at the portal site will run off into an evaporation pond which is below the springs. Currently the North Emery Water Users lines in Rilda are disabled due to the road construction. The spring water is running into the creek. Rocky Mountain Power has a well by the power plant and the North Emery users are currently utilizing that water as well as extra water from the Castle Valley Special Service District. North Emery water users won’t notice any change in service.
Part of the Rilda road project will include re-installation of the North Emery water lines after the road is completed. Another road project in the county is the South Moore Cut-off road project Phase III, bid has been awarded to Nielson Construction. The construction of Phase III which connects Phases I and II will begin the middle of July. The paving contract will be awarded by August and some paving will begin this season and continue into summer 2008. The paving projects will be phases V and VI.
