At Clawson Town’s recent council meeting, the council planned the Harvest Celebration. It is scheduled for Sept. 22 and some events being considered are a climbing wall, baking contest, candy cannon, an auction, face painting, kids games, and a dunking machine.
Mayor Carey Bloomer asked the council for permission to remind all residents to clean up their properties of garbage, old cars, weeds, etc. She added that many old houses in town should be taken down also. Bloomer wondered if there were incentives which could be offered to prompt residents to clean up the town.
Mayor Bloomer also informed the council of an ordinance change which is being considered. The ordinance being considered deals with the beautification and health aspects of cleaning up Clawson. She stated the change will address unwanted items on private property.
The changes will allow the city to clean up the items if they are left for more than 10 days. After the clean-up, the city will have the right to bill the property owner for the clean up and fine them $100 for each violation.
Councilman Gerry Hatch said he has talked with Darrel Leamaster of the Special Service District about the cost of the chip seal project for 2008 in Clawson. The project will cost the town $9,000-10,000. He also requested the paving of Rock Canyon Road be put on the list of projects.
Councilperson Amanda Price told the council of a research project which needs to be completed. The veterans in the cemetery need to be recorded. This will enable the American Legion to do a tribute in the Clawson Cemetery next year on Memorial Day.
The next Clawson Town Council meeting will be held Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at the town hall building.
