The 2007 Emery High football season officially began last Friday night with the annual Black and Gold game. With the team divided into two equal units, the Black team defeated the gold team 28-24 in a highly competitive and entertaining game.
The first and third quarters saw the seniors and juniors go at it while the second and fourth quarters saw the sophomores and juniors go at it.
The Emery coaches got an opportunity to evaluate talent under game conditions and are pleased with the progress the team has made so far this year.
Practice started July 30 with a week of conditioning followed by three days of two-a-days and a single day of practice. The team will continue preparing for the opening of the season, which will be this Friday night at home against Duchesne, last season’s 1-A champion.
Head coach Jimmy Jones will be assisted by Todd Jeffs, Dean Stilson, Kent Jorgenson, Mark Justice, Gary Arrington, Dave Justice and Kade Jones.
With the Duchesne game being an endowment game, there will not be any JV or sophomore games this week. All three teams will be in action next week as Emery will host Canyon View and the other two teams will travel to Canyon View on Thursday night for two games.
Emery returns seven starters on both offense and defense and the season promises to be exciting. Game time is 7 p.m.
