WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Bennett issued the following statement immediately after the tragic news that three rescuers were killed and six injured during what experts call a significant bounce in the Crandall County Mine on Thursday: “My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who were killed and injured in last night’s rescue efforts. The rescuers who put their lives on the line are true heroes.
“I support the decision to suspend rescue operations inside the mine, and instead focus all efforts on drilling into the mountain. We need to find the six missing miners, and I remain hopeful and optimistic that we will.”
