Just prior to the Emery County Fair, the Museum of the San Rafael hosted the Shirley Venus memorial coloring contest. Artist Joseph Venus and his wife Shirley, are Utah artists whose work has been featured in the Museum many times. Shirley recently passed away and this coloring contest was held in her honor.
The Venus’ have published five educational coloring books for young people which depict their artwork. The Museum selected a page from one of the books and this was what the children who entered the contest were to color.
The entries were divided into age groups and the winners were: ages 10-12, Justine Fielder of Castle Dale won first place and was awarded a cash prize of $20; ages 7-9, Cassie Barr of Salt Lake City won first place; and in the 5-6 year old age group, Nikki Jensen of Phoenix, Ariz. won first place.
Joseph Venus came to the Museum at the conclusion of the coloring contest to judge the entries and award the prizes. All of the Venus coloring books are available for purchase at the Museum of the San Rafael.
