RJ the Clown will be at the Peach Days parade and at the park. She is seen here with Zachary Jones.

Due to the resignation of Ferron City Councilman Rodney Toomer on July 27, the vacant position was advertised and applications were received. At the Aug. 23 Ferron City Council meeting, Trent Jackson was appointed to fill the vacancy. Jackson will serve to the end of Toomer’s position which will be 2010.
All preparations for Peach Days are continuing, and are moving ahead for a scaled back celebration. There will be no bike ride or ATV poker ride, but the other events typically held at Peach Days will be held. The golf tournament, dinner and breakfast will be fund raising events and the funds will be given to the families of the miners of the Crandall Canyon mine disaster.
Ferron has chosen to honor all coal miners as their honored citizens for Peach Days. Ferron is asking all miners who wish, to be a part of the Peach Days parade which will be held on Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. It will begin at Emery County Care and Rehab, continue along Mill Road to State Street, then to the Fair Grounds. Councilman Joe Trenery said trainers are beginning to move in their horses to train for the Peach Days races.
Plans for the demolition derby are being finalized. It has been decided that the driver and two pit crew members will be the only ones allowed in the pits, or entry into the derby. Everyone else will be charged an entrance fee and no one else will be allowed in the pits.
The restaurant at Millsite Golf Course has closed, but discussions are underway to possibly have a new manager with hopes that it will reopen soon.
Councilman Trenery announced the bids for the tractor for the cemetery. The council reviewed and approved the bid to purchase the new tractor from Caterpillar and purchase a canopy for the tractor. The old tractor will be put out for bid soon.
Councilperson Jo Sansevero requested volunteers to help with the fun day. She said there are more things planned than volunteers to run the events. Any resident of Ferron who is willing to help should contact Sansevero. She also announced that RJ the Clown will be in the park for the entire day on Sept. 8 to entertain.
The next Ferron City Council meeting will be held Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Ferron City Hall.
