Huntington City open burn period will be Sept. 15 thru Oct. 14 burn permits will be required and can be picked up at the city hall. Fall cleanup will be Oct. 1 thru Oct. 31.

Dinner for Huntington and Surrounding Communities
The Snow College business classes are hosting a free BBQ dinner on Sept. 20 from 5-8 p.m. at the Huntington Park. This event is free to the public. They welcome all to attend. This is a community gathering to show support in the wake of the Crandall Canyon Mining Disaster. The business class wishes to extend their love and support from neighboring Sanpete County to Emery County.
Share the Experience Photo Contest
The Federal Lands Management Agencies, along with the Ford Motor Company and the National Park Foundation, are sponsoring the Share the Experience photo contest, honoring the best photos of American public lands. The contest is open to the public and accepting submissions until Dec. 31. A total of 14 photographs will be given awards for their excellence. The grand prize winning photograph will be printed on the 2009 Federal Recreation Lands Pass and the photographer will receive a new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. Free State Park Day
Celebrate free State Park Day and National Public Lands Day on Sept. 29. Day-use fees will be waived at all Utah State Parks. Special fees, such as golf and camping fees still apply. Visit for the day, attend a special event or volunteer to improve your state parks.
National Spanish Trails Symposium
The Southern Utah Chapter of the Old Spanish Trail Association is pleased to announce a National Spanish Trails Symposium Oct. 11-13 in Cedar City. There will be presentations from more than 16 trail scholars on a wide range of topics. Admission is $80 per person at the door and includes the published technical abstracts from the symposium. There will also be a Thursday evening chuck wagon dinner ($10), a Friday night banquet ($25) and Saturday trail excursions ($10).
Fall Ride
In honor of Utah’s fallen officers, ride with Governor Huntsman for the First Annual Fall Ride 4 Fallen Officers. They gave their lives for you now you can give something back. Free Symphony
The players of the Utah Symphony are giving a free concert at the Emery High School auditorium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 24. This will be the full orchestra (more than 80 musicians), conducted by Music Director Keith Lockhart. Lockhart is also the music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Gospel singer, Renese King, is also coming. Everyone welcome.
Republican Fall Dinner
The public is welcome to attend the Republican Fall Dinner to be held Sept. 26. at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Citizens Building. Tickets can be purchased at the door. There will be a program, speakers and door prizes.
Going On A Trek
The Emery County Historical Society will go on a fall trek. Join them for a look at the dinosaur excavation, CCC names in rock,dinosaur track, Matt Warner’s name on rock, rock art, Buckhorn panel, mk shanty town, lunch by the Swinging Bridge mark your calendar and join us on Sept. 22. Meet at the corrals east of Castle Dale no later than 10 a.m. Bring your jacket, water, folding chair, and a pot luck dish. The society will furnish hot dogs and buns. Plateu Mining Reunion

USDA Emergency Loans
President Bush declared a major disaster in Utah on Aug 21. As a result agriculture producers are eligible for Farm Service Agency emergency loans. Farmers/Ranchers in Emery/Carbon/Grand Counties can apply for an emergency loan by April 21, 2008. San Rafael Back Country Horsemen
The San Rafael Back-Country Horsemen meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Cleveland Town Hall. The next meeting will be on Sept. 19 when Bill Broadbear from the USFS will discuss trails in the Manti LaSal. Meetings include discussion about rides, service projects, and horse care. Youth Leadership Summit
The fourth annual Castle Valley Youth Leadership Summit will be held at Emery High School Sept 22. All youth ages 14-18 may attend. Enjoy a day of fun workshops, games, service project, dance and a grand prize of a computer or Ipod. Inspirational speaker will be Nicole Nolton from “Rachel’s Challenge” and survivor of the Columbine disaster. Public is welcome to attend at 7 p.m. The youth will also be doing a service project and are in need of the following items: coloring or activity books, colored pencils and sharpeners, gallon size bags, stuffed animals, card games, small fleece blankets or one yard of fleece fabric.
