Emery will host two region foes this week in volleyball as the real season is now upon us. North Sanpete will come to town on Tuesday night and Juan Diego will be in Castle Dale Thursday night to start the region season.
In the last two preseason matches, Emery defeated Duchesne in Castle Dale on Tuesday and then traveled to Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars on Thursday and won there in five games.
Against Duchesne, Emery won 25-15, 22-25, 25-19 and 28-26. At Union, Emery won 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15 and 15-12.
Several players stood out in their efforts, especially against Union according to Coach Melissa Esplin. “Jalee Jensen passed really, really well this week and Chelsea Skinner served well and set the ball well. It is nice to have Frankie Komar back after she hurt her hand and she is serving and setting really good. Meagan Pearson has a very good all-around game and helps keep the team motivated. It seems now that the team is hitting the ball well, especially Abbie Kay, Sierra Bridgewater and Madison Jensen.”
Against Duchesne, Emery looked really good in the first game but then towards the end of the second game, they sort of stopped doing everything that had been going right for them. Melissa talked about that, “When you get a team that is not as good as you, you sometimes play down to their level. We shook it off and came back and played strong to close them out.”
Emery is now ready for the region wars to begin.
