Huntington City Open Burn
Huntington City open burn period will be Sept. 15 thru Oct. 14. Burn permits will be required and can be picked up at City Hall. Fall Cleanup will be Oct. 1 thru Oct. 31. Tree limbs will only be picked up during spring and fall cleanup. There will no longer be a monthly pick up of trees and limbs. Dumpster location will be at the Huntington City Rodeo Grounds.

Benefit Golf Tournament
The Boys and Girls club of Green River will be holding a benefit golf tournament on Oct. 6. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m., and 10 a.m. will be a shot gun start. Early registration is suggested with spaces limited to 18 four-person teams. Awards and drawings will be held. For further information contact 435-564-8882. All proceeds from the tournament will go equally to the Crandall Canyon Disaster victims families and the Boys and Girls club of Green River.
Regional Single Adult Fireside
Regional Single Adult Fireside will be held Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Utah Stake Center. Featuring the great sculptor Dee Jay Bawden who will be speaking. Deana Bawden, his wife, will also be singing that night. Dee Jay has sculpted many mascots for different high schools, and also the Joseph Smith which was taken from his death mask. Refreshments will be served. All single adults in the Carbon and Emery Area are welcome to attend.

Cleveland Fall Burn
Cleveland town fall burn season will be from Sept. 15 through Oct. 14. Permits will be available at the town office. Allowable material to burn is dry weeds, garden waste, irrigation ditches, tree limbs under 6 in. diameter, tree and shrub trimming and non treated scrap lumber.
Know Before You Go
An ATV permit class will be held Oct. 3 at the old Courthouse in Castle Dale beginning at 7 p.m. for ages 8-16 to be legal to drive on public lands. Soldiers Addresses Needed
American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Photo Contest by the Utah Office of Tourism
The Utah Office of Tourism is encouraging amateur photographers with a love of Utah’s public lands to help promote the state’s beauty in a national contest. The Federal Lands Management Agencies, along with the Ford Motor Company and the National Park Foundation, are sponsoring the Share the Experience Photo Contest, honoring the best photos of American public lands. The contest is open to the public and accepting submissions until Dec. 31. A total of 14 photographs will be given awards for their excellence. The Grand Prize winning photograph will be printed on the 2009 Federal Recreation Lands Pass and the photographer will receive a new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. National Spanish Trails Symposium
The Southern Utah Chapter of the Old Spanish Trail Association is pleased to announce a National Spanish Trails Symposium Oct. 11-13 in Cedar City. There will be presentation from over 16 trail scholars on a wide range of topics. Admission is $80 per person at the door and includes the published technical abstracts from the symposium. There will also be a Thursday evening chuck wagon dinner ($10), a Friday night banquet ($25) and Saturday trail excursions ($10).
