Sterling Scholar Coat Drive


The Emery High Sterling Scholars are going to conduct a coat drive in conjunction with the Les Schwab program. Jackets and coats can be dropped off at the Emery High office anytime during school hours. They will also accept coat donations at the Christmas Extravaganza on Dec. 1 beginning at 10 a.m.

Green River Community Resource and Benefit Fair


This fair will be held on Dec. 4 from 3-7 p.m. at Green River High School. Booths sponsors will be on hand to answer questions. These booths are by local job, rehabilitation, training, etc. services. Many military booths will be available also.

Annual Economic Development Planning Meeting


Annual Economic Development Planning meeting will be held Nov. 28 at the County Building at 6 p.m. Dinner served and everyone welcome.

Christmas Pottery Sale


The College of Eastern Utah’s Christmas pottery sale will be held in the student center Nov. 29-30 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The student center is located at 300 East 500 North in Price.

Tryouts for the Sound of Music


Emery High School and the Emery County Community Theatre are joining together to present the Sound of Music in 2008. Tryouts will be held in the Emery High chorus room on Nov. 27-28 at 7 p.m. Come prepared to sing a one minute song.

Ferron Elementary Book Fair


Ferron Elementary will hold a book fair Dec. 3-7 from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. each day.

Know Before You Go


An ATV permit class will be held Nov. 29 at the old courthouse building beginning at 7 p.m. for ages 8-16 to be legal to drive on public lands. You must preregister at the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale before Nov. 27. Festival of Trees

Emery County Gun Club Schedule

Commodities Cooking Classes


Commodities cooking classes will be held in Emery County at the Emery County Courthouse, 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale, from 9 a.m.-noon on the following days: Dec. 19; Jan. 16, 2008; Feb. 20, 2008; March 19, 2008, April 16, 2008, May 21, 2008; and June 18, 2008.

A group of local residents have started a website dedicated to empowering the people of Emery and Carbon counties to articulate their points of view regarding the recent tragedies at Crandall, coal mining and coal mining culture, and the future of coal mining in this region. Festive Fridays Return for the Third Year


The third annual Festive Fridays will be held at the Old County Courthouse, upstairs at 12 noon on the following Fridays: Nov. 30; Dec. 7; and Dec; 14. Cost for each class is $2 and RSVP is requested. Call the Extension office at 381-2381.

Spinal Care Classes


Spinal care classes are being offered free to the public by Dr. Ronald B. Sanders at Castle Chiropractic. These classes will help identify things that people do wrong that injure the spine. We will also discuss exercises and remedies to help alleviate back and spinal problems. This class lasts one half hour, from 4-4:30 p.m., and are given every Tuesday at Dr. Sander’s office at 46 East Main Street, Castle Dale.

Food Handler’s Class


Food handler’s class will be held on Dec. 13 from 4-7 p.m. at the South Eastern Utah Health Department in Castle Dale. Call 381-2252 for more information.

Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Share the Experience Photo Contest


The Utah Office of Tourism is encouraging amateur photographers with a love of Utah’s public lands to help promote the state’s beauty in a national contest. The Federal lands management agencies, along with the Ford Motor Company and the National Park Foundation, are sponsoring the Share the Experience Photo Contest, honoring the best photos of American public lands. The contest is open to the public and accepting submissions until Dec. 31. A total of 14 photographs will be given awards for their excellence. The Grand Prize winning photograph will be printed on the 2009 Federal Recreation Lands Pass and the photographer will receive a new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
