Last week at the Carbon Duals wrestling tournament, Emery wrestlers did very well for themselves. In an 11-team tournament, two Spartans finished in first place and three others finished in third place. Emery finished in fifth place as a team.
McKay Allred did the best for Emery as he won all nine of his matches to finish undefeated and in first place. McKay wrestles for Emery in the 125-pound weight class.
In the 189-pound weight class, Wade Bohn also took home first place but he finished the tournament with an 8-1 record.
Cyal Christmas, in the 275-pound weight class, also finished with an 8-1 record but took third place. He lost a match at the wrong time.
Landon Huntsman and Hayden Hatch also finished in third place and they each had a 7-2 record. Landon wrestles at 160 pounds and Hayden wrestles at 135 pounds.

Mike Jones, Drew Bohn and Clay Collard also wrestled well but each finished just out of medal contention.
Participating in this year’s tournament were Carbon A and B, Park City, Grand, Monticello, American Leadership, Logan, Duchesne, Tooele, Emery and Juan Diego.
In the JV tournament held in conjunction with varsity tournament, Kenny Baker wrestled and finished third and Zack Walls wrestled and finished in first place. The JV tournament is a round robin affair.
After the meet Head Coach Buck Taylor talked about his team, “We have potential, lots of potential this season. We’ve got some good veteran leadership and some really good younger wrestlers. These are a bunch of tough kids; they have come a long way this year. They amaze me every time that we hit the mat. These kids know a lot of stuff; they just need to apply it now. If they continue working hard and getting smarter, we could have a good season.”
Although Taylor would like more kids to be on the wrestling team, in talking with him he is quite pleased with the quality of those wrestling. Emery wrestles North Sevier in Castle Dale this Thursday night.
