Editor,
I read in several newspapers where Rep. Maurice Hinchey is being pushed by Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance to lock away 9 million acres in Utah as wilderness.
H.R. 1919 proposes to designate lands as wilderness in the following areas: Great Basin, Zion and Mojave Desert, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Moab-LaSal canyons, Henry Mountains, Glen Canyon, San Juan-Anasazi, Canyonlands basin, San Rafael Swell, and Book Cliffs and Uintah Basin.
Every rural and suburban resident of Utah should look very closely at their voting ballot next time at election if this bill is allowed to pass.
My suggestion is: Bill 2020. “Be it proposed that any legislator in Congress in Washington D.C. who proposes to allocate lands located within another state into wilderness, said legislator proposing such legislation must also propose the same equal amount of acreage from his own state be set aside as wilderness also.”
It is proposed by the majority of tax paying registered voters that our Congressmen serving us in Washington D.C. will form a united cohesive group and push this bill forword ahead of Minchey’s H.R. 1919 bill. Write your Washington legislators protesting Minchey’s bill.
