The Emery County Historical Society welcomes you to join them for Many Voices: Revealing Secrets of the San Rafael Swell presented by Dottie Grimes, director of the Emery County Archives, on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at The Museum Of The San Rafael. Do not miss this presentation of pictures and histories of happenings on the San Rafael. Special music by Brandon Singleton. Huntington Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is having a Relay for Life yard sale April 26. We want everyone that’s going to do spring-cleaning, that is if it will stop snowing long enough to have a yard sale, that means attic, basement, closets, sheds. San Rafael Backcountry Horsemen

Benefit for Ryan Thompson


A benefit dinner for Ryan Thompson (in need of a liver transplant) Feb. 23 from 5-8 p.m. at Huntington Elementary. The cost is $6 single and $20 couple. There will be a silent auction, live auction and bake sale. Entertainment: Val Jensen Band; LaRae’s Dance Studio; and vocalist Jeannie Baggs. Also a fund has been set up at Desertview Credit Union in Ryan’s name. Auction beginning at 6 p.m.

Community Representatives Needed


Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange is looking for community representatives to assist in finding host families and work with the students and their families during the school year. The Department of Workforce Services,


DWS in partnership with The College of Eastern Utah, Price City, Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, Carbon County School District, and Vocational Rehabilitation, are holding a Job Fair on March 13. This is a convenient way to recruit new employees, promote your company and products, and network with companies. The job fair will be held on March 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CEU’s, Jennifer Leavitt Student Center, on the corner of 500 North 300 East, Price. Booth space is $30 per table. Emery County Gun Club


Draw for team league: Purse paid out each week. Participants name will be put on a playing card and then the cards will be shuffled and squads will be drawn at random. Must be present at 7 p.m. for drawing of teams. Feb. 22 draw league at 7 p.m.; March 1 games at dark; March 7 draw league at 7 p.m.; March 15 games at dark; March 21 draw league at 7 p.m.; March 29 games at dark.

Huntington City Dog Licenses


Huntington City 2008 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented before license may be purchased at the Huntington City Hall or at the rabies clinic which will be held at the Huntington City Fire Station on Feb. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to Noon.

Food Handler’s Classes


There will be a Food Handler’s class for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing home, school cafeterias, convenience stores or deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price on March 4 at p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department located at 28 South 100 East in Price. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on Feb. 21 and March 27 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 West Main in Castle Dale. The classes are two hours in length and the cost is $10 to take the test. For more information call Dr. Claron D. Vendors Wanted


The Emery County Fair is now accepting applications for food and general vendors for the Emery County Fair which will be held on July 30, 31, Aug 1 and 2. To be an exclusive food vendor, you must have your application into the Emery County Recreation office by March 21. Applications may be picked up at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. or go to the website at www.emerycounty.com/fair/vendor. Orangeville City Dog Licenses


2008 dog licenses are now available at the Orangeville City Hall. Fees are $25 for a non-altered dog and $8 for a spayed/neutered dog. A rabies clinic will be held on Feb. 23 at the new fire station in Orangeville from 10 a.m.-12 noon.

Commodities Cooking Classes


Commodities cooking classes will be held in Emery County at the Emery County Courthouse, 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale, from 9 a.m.-noon on the following days: Feb. 20; March 19, April 16, May 21; and June 18.

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
