Green River golfers head to tourneys.

The Green River High School boy’s golf team played yesterday for the region golf title at the Moab Golf Course. With only two teams playing, and the tournament ending after this paper had already been sent to be printed, one team will go to state and the other team will stay home. Green River and Monticello will be vying for that state slot.
The Green River girl’s golf team has already qualified for state. With this being the first year of girl’s play, things are done a little different than for the guys. The girls are basically qualifying as individuals, not as a team, and will be playing against 1A, 2A and 3A girl’s teams.
For the Pirates, three individuals are going to the tournament being held next week at Rose Park in Salt Lake City on May 13. Brittney Bastian, Brighton Sweeten and Sarah Swalberg will represent Green River High at that tournament.
The girls have played this season against mostly 2A schools. They have golfed against Grand, Richfield, Beaver and South Summit. All the teams this season stack up evenly against the others.
Earl Nelson, Troy Sweeten and Marvin Arnold have been golfing within a couple of strokes of each other all season and, if Green River loses to Monticello, the medallist for the Pirates will also go to state. The boy’s tournament is being held at River Dell Golf Course in Riverton this season. That tournament is May 13-14.
