The Emery High baseball team concluded its 2008 season with a 2-1 loss to Wasatch High School last Thursday in a game played at Taylorsville High School. Judge Memorial won the 3-A title 6-2 over region 8 rival Juan Diego.
Wasatch scored two runs in the first inning off Emery pitcher Gatlan Huntington and then the Wasps held on for the win. Two singles and an Emery error led to the runs. Huntington gave up five hits in the game and three walks, with all of them coming in the same inning.
Emery scored their lone run in the top of the seventh inning. Brett Mecham singled and scored on a single by Ryne Jones. Emery had other opportunities in the game but were unable to capitalize on them.

Gatlan Huntington walked and Jones singled in the first inning but neither was able to score. Addison Collard singled and got to second base in the second inning but also was unable to score. In the fifth inning, Collard singled again and Derrick Allred and Mecham each had a sacrifice bunt attempt that turned into a fielder’s choice. In the sixth inning, Jones singled and Steven Giles singled but again neither was able to score.
Emery had their opportunities to win the game but it just wasn’t to be. Seven base hits and two walks but only one run. Ryne Jones had three singles and Addison Collard had two to lead the offensive effort.
