The 2008 high school track season concluded last weekend with the 3-A state meet held at BYU. Cedar City High took the boys crown with 89 points and Judge Memorial took the girls crown with 100 points. The Emery boys finished in eighth place, just two points out of sixth.
Zac Clement finished second in the shot put with a throw of 47’6.25″ to place the best of any Emery male participant in the meet. Zac, who was expected to do well in the javelin which is his best event, had his javelin disqualified for not being balanced and did not throw well with the replacement he found. He scratched on his first two throws and then his third was way short of needed distance.
McKay Allred finished fourth in the 300 hurdles after Levi Swasey was disqualified after hitting a hurdle. Swasey’s hurdle fell into another lane to impede another runner. Swasey was fourth at the time and Allred was fifth.

The 4×400 relay team also finished fourth. The team consisted of Jake Gardener, Levi Swasey, McKay Allred and Tyler Killpack. The Medley relay team finished fifth. That team consisted of Swasey, Mark Defriez, Allred and Killpack.
Tyler Killpack finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:00.52. Levi Swasey was fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.91 seconds. Kyle Johansen was fifth in the high jump with a jump of 6′.
McKay Allred and Kyle Holmes were named Academic All-State.
For the girls team, Nikki Rogers finished seventh in the 200m run with a time of 26.90 and eighth in the 100m run with a time of 13.15. Madison Jensen finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6′. The winner also jumped 6′ but won because she did it in fewer jumps.
