The blue Volkswagon was hit from the rear in the accident involving a Coke truck.

On May 28, a Coke truck and a Volkswagon car were involved in an accident on SR-10 which resulted in the road being closed for several hours. Apparently the eye witnesses reported the blue car and the Coke truck were both traveling southbound at the time of the accident. The car had stopped along SR-10 to make a left hand turn into the red shop just north of the Hunter power plant. The car was waiting for a coal truck to pass before making the turn. The Coke truck driver reportedly was sneezing and didn’t see the stopped car. He hit the car in the rear and the car went across the northbound traffic lane and off the road. The Coke truck hit the brakes and went off the shoulder of the road, down the embankment colliding with a fence and a power pole bringing the power line down. The Coke truck driver exited his truck and walked back up the embankment to get away from his vehicle which was leaking diesel fuel and was also in contact with the downed power lines. Emergency crews arrived on the scene to extract the victims from the car. The occupants of the car were a woman and her son from Oregon, visiting in the area. The injuries of all three accident victims were reported to be non life threatening.

Sgt. Dusty Butler surveys the damage to the Coke truck.
