Castle Valley, Utah… After a few days of inactivity, the wildfire became active and produced most of its growth on July 3. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) crews hiked up to the wildfire and began working with a helicopter to do bucket work.
It was determined that due to steep and rugged terrain, combined with the loose rock and unstable ground, that it was not safe for the crews to construct line around the fire using direct attack tactics.
The BLM has put the fire in monitor status and will continue to staff the fire and monitor its progress daily. Smoke may be visible to residents of Castle Valley.
If the fire status changes or begins to pose a greater threat, the BLM will reassess the fire activity and change suppression tactics as needed. For more info call Heather O’Hanlon @ 435-259-2184.
