Dinner Fund Raiser for the Hatch Family of Emery
Kris and Morgan Hatch’s daughter Wendy was seriously injured in a traffic accident on July 19. She was Life Flighted to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City for surgery on an injured neck. Due to mounting medical expenses, a fund raiser will be held for the family on July 25 at 6 p.m. in the Emery Town Community Center. This event is sponsored by the Emery EMTs. Dinner will be by donation, and they are accepting items to be raffled.
Emery County Fair Parade
“Let the Magic Continue” is the theme for the 2008 Emery County Fair. The county fair parade will be held Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. and entries are needed. Anything Emery County has to offer is welcomed. Local $10,000 Breast Cancer Grant Could Go Unclaimed Utah women asked to share stories in July
A local company is offering a $10,000 grant to help a family pay for the treatment costs and medical bills associated with breast cancer. However, now just weeks from the entry deadline, there are concerns the sponsorship will go unclaimed if more personal stories from Utah women are not received. To become eligible for sponsorship, women affected by breast cancer have been asked to share their personal breast cancer stories online before Aug.1. The company’s website, www.ithinkpink.org, has received thousands of visitors but very few nominations have come from within the state.
Canyon View Junior High Registration Schedule
Student schedules for the 2008-09 school year at Canyon View Junior High School have been prepared, and it will soon be time for students and their parents/guardians to come to school to complete the process. Ninth grade: Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to noon; eighth grade: Aug. 5, 1-4 p.m.; and seventh grade: Aug. 6, 8:30 a.m.-noon. For families registering more than one student at Canyon View, registration may be completed in one visit. Choose the most convenient time listed above. During the seventh grade registration, two orientation programs will be held in the media center. The first will be at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m. If you are registering a seventh grader, plan on attending one of these sessions. Valuable information will be provided which will help our seventh graders make the transition to junior high school.

The Taste of Home Cooking School on Sept. 13 in Price. This year the event will be held at the Carbon County Events Center. Emery County Photographers Wanted
Emery County photographers are wanted for the Emery County Fair. The theme for the display wall is Economic Role in the San Rafael, Mining, Ranching, Tourism, Oil Exploration, Historic Trails, Outlaw Trails, etc. Other roles could be camping, scenic views, ancient Indian writings. Photographs for display and judging will be submitted on July 29 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Photographs will be judged on July 30 and open to public viewing on Aug. 1 and 2. Little Miss Emery
Contestants for the Little Miss Emery pageant are needed. Girls who will be 5-8 years old by July 1, 2009 are eligible. The winner will accompany the 2008 Miss Emery to the Miss Utah pageant. On Aug. 7 at Millsite Golf Course in Ferron from 8-10 a.m. the EHS golf team will help the golfers. $10 each; all golfers age 5 and up welcome.

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available Power Wheelchairs to Senior Citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
