Canyon Days Annual Summer Picnic

Emery County Flag Football Signups

WWII Veterans


Seeking officers, enlisted men, WACs, cadets, Britons, civilians and /or their families and friends who were stationed at Cochran Field, or lived in Macon, Ga. during WWII, who would be willing to contribute artifacts, photos, articles and stories pertaining to their experience with the men and women working there. Emery High Tennis


Emery High girls tennis practice will begin Aug. 6 at 7 a.m. All girls who will be in grades 9-12 in the upcoming school year are eligible to participate. You just need your own racket and tennis shoes. For further information contact Tom Hansen 435-653-2410.

The first official practice is Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. at the Emery football field. Anyone from the 9-12 grade is welcome to come out for football. The first game is on Aug. 22.

Emery County Fair Parade


“Let the Magic Continue” is the theme for the 2008 Emery County Fair. The county fair parade will be held Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. and entries are needed. Anything Emery County has to offer is welcomed. Canyon View Junior High Registration


Student schedules for the 2008-09 school year at Canyon View Junior High School have been prepared, and it will soon be time for students and their parents/guardians to come to school to complete the process. Ninth grade Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to noon; eighth grade: Aug. 5, 1-4 p.m.; and seventh grade: Aug. 6, 8:30 a.m.-noon. For families registering more than one student at Canyon View, registration may be completed in one visit. Choose the most convenient time listed above. During the seventh grade registration, two orientation programs will be held in the media center. The first will be at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m. If you are registering a seventh grader, please plan on attending one of these sessions. Valuable information will be provided which will help our seventh graders make the transition to junior high school.

Food Handler’s Classes

The Taste of Home Cooking School


The Taste of Home Cooking School on Sept. 13 in Price. This year the event will be held at the Carbon County Events Center. We are looking for exhibitors/vendors who would be interested in being at this exciting event which would expose their business to more than 800 women from the surround Castle Valley area. Emery County Photographers Wanted


Emery County photographers are wanted for the Emery County Fair. The theme for the display wall is Economic Role in the San Rafael, Mining, Ranching, Tourism, Oil Exploration, Historic Trails, Outlaw Trails, ect. Other roles could be camping, scenic views, ancient Indian writings. Photographs for display and judging will be submitted on July 29 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Photographs will be judged on July 30 and open to public viewing on Aug. 1 and 2. Photographs need to be picked up by Aug. 4 at noon. Rules for submitting an entry can be found in any county library. Call Stan Mathis with questions, 381-2466.

Little Miss Emery


Contestants for the Little Miss Emery pageant are needed. Girls who will be 5-8 years old by July 1, 2009 are eligible. The winner will accompany the 2008 Miss Emery to the Miss Utah pageant. The Little Miss pageant will be held during the Emery County Fair on July 31 at 6 p.m. To register call Jarilyn at 381-5667 or the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Contestants will perform a talent, write a poem, participate in evening wear and on stage question.

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available Power Wheelchairs to Senior Citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify.The Power Wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self propel a manual wheelchair and who mee the additional guidelines of the program. Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange is looking for host families in the local area to host a foreign exchange student. These young ambassadors are between 15 and 18 years of age and all speak English. Student’s profiles will start arriving for students from various countries.
