The Emery High Spartan football team played its annual Black and Gold game last Saturday night signaling the beginning of the fall sport. After summer weights, after the Millard week long camp, after a week of conditioning and after two-a-days, the football team is ready to finally play a real game. The practicing is almost over as Emery will start the season in Moab this Friday night in a game against Grand High School.
For the Black and Gold game, the team was divided down the middle to form to competing teams for the game. For informational sake, the White team defeated the Black team, much to the consternation of Kameron Stilson, 19-6.
The first and third quarters were between players that were juniors and seniors and the second and fourth quarters were between players that were either juniors or sophomores.
With the final score not being the objective of the game but the individual effort of each of the players as they may help the team have a winning season was the thing coaches were looking for. The two teams hit hard, executed well at times and generally put forth a good effort.
Emery travels the first three weeks of the season. After Grand, Emery will travel to Canyon View in Cedar City and Desert Hills in St George. Emery opens the home season on Sept. 12 against American Leadership Academy.
Each of the three classes at Emery High seem to have talent and should provide an exciting season if the players continue progressing in their play.
