Millsite Golf Course and the Emery High Spartans hosted the first region golf tournament of the 2008 school season and the Spartans finished third in the meet.
Mark Guymon and Jason Giles led the Spartan effort.
Guymon, a junior at Emery High School, shot a four over par score of 76 to lead the team with Giles, a senior, shooting a 79. Guymon finished second behind a Carbon golfer that shot a 73. Giles was fourth.
Nevin Jensen and Taylor Tanner shot the same score as their scores were also counted in Emery’s team score.
Carbon High won the meet with new region school Salem Hills finishing second. After Emery came North Sanpete, Juan Diego and then Delta. Emery beat the Hawks by eight strokes and Juan Diego by 14 strokes.
After the meet, Coach Kevin Reynolds talked about the tournament. “We played really well. Guymon and Giles are solid golfers and if a couple of these other kids can step it up, we could compete for the region crown. We need to keep it up.”
The region plays this week at Delta. The Rabbits host the meet on Thursday.
