Huntington City Fall Clean-Up
Oct. 31 will be the last limb pick-up until the spring clean-up. Dumpsters will be at the rodeo grounds. Do not place anything on the ground. The Emery County Landfill is requesting these items not be placed in the dumpsters: tires batteries oil no liquid of any type such as paint, turpentine, etc., pesticides, cement refrigerators. A $12,000 fine could be imposed for violation of these guidelines.
Huntington City Open Burn
Sept. 20 through Oct 19. Burn permits are required. You may pick one up at the City Hall.
Festive Fridays Return
Utah State University Extension is once again sponsoring Festive Fridays. Grab the gang and join them on Sept. 26 at noon in the county building. Cost is $2 for lunch and handouts, and $2 to make the nerf stickhorse to take home.
Jake Garn Endless Possibilities
Former Senator and Astronaut Jake Garn will be at Emery High School Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. presenting his program Endless Possibilities. The public is welcome.
Cleveland Town Fall Burn Season
The Cleveland Town fall burn season is from Sept. 20 to Oct. 19. Permits available at the Town Office, 100 West Main. Everyone must obtain a permit prior to burning.
Amateur Photographers Wanted
The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum announces their upcoming exhibition, “Picture This.” The exhibition will consist of images submitted by local amateur photographers. The museum will be accepting submissions now through Sept. 30, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visit the museum website at museum.ceu.edu for more details.
No-till Plantings Tour
More than 400 acres have been planted using the new no-till drills purchased by the San Rafael Conservation District and Castleland RC David Bird, 6-9 p.m.; Kristy Guymon, 5-9 p.m.; Darrell Gardner, 5-9 p.m.; Tisha Thornley, 6-9 p.m.; and Alicia Whitesel, 3-6 p.m.
Book Sale
Orangeville Library will hold a book sale Sept. 29 – Oct. 3. Adult books $2, childrens books $1, paperback books 25 cents. They have a big selection. The money collected from the sale will be used to purchase new books for the Orangeville Library.
Canyon View Junior High Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences for mid-term of the first term will be held Sept. 25, from 3:20-9:00 p.m. You can pick up your students mid-term report card at the office and visit with the teachers at your convenience. The following teachers (Donn Jeffs, David Bird, and Reed Fehlberg) do not teach a full day at Canyon View and will be available from 3:20 – 5:45 p.m.

“Know Before You Go”
An ATV permit class will be held Sept. 24 at the Old Courthouse located at 75 East Main, Castle Dale at 7 p.m for ages 8-16 to be legal to drive on public lands. You must pre-register at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, by Sept. 23. The Emery County Republican Party will sponsor a breakfast at Barn’s Grill on Sat. Sept. 27 at 8:30 a.m. There will be speakers and the public is welcome to attend. Tickets can be purchased at the door and it will be $20 for a good breakfast.

Meet the Candidate
Meet the Candidate night will be held on Sept. 24 at the Little Theatre in the Spartan Center of Emery High in Castle Dale at 7 p.m. Local candidates as well as state and national candidates have been invited. Candidates will have an introduction speech and will then field questions from the audience. Everyone welcome, refreshments served.
Holiday Bazaar in Emery
A holiday bazaar will be held at the Emery Community Center Nov. 20-22. Anyone wishing to have booth space should call Barb Petty at 286-2215. Booth space rent is $20 with a $10 refund if space is left clean.
School District Speech and Hearing Screening
Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screening to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a retest in three-four weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District speech-language pathologists administer the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, first grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing. Pre-kindergarten students will be screened during kindergarten registration and third grade students will be screened for speech only. Parents who do not want their child to receive speech or hearing screening tests must contact the school secretary.
Apple Harvest At Wasatch Mountain State Park
Midway-Through the end of September, celebrate fall with park staff during the second annual apple harvest at historic Huber Grove at Wasatch Mountain State Park. Pick and taste mountain-fresh apples of several varieties and make great applesauce and ciders. Wasatch Mountain trees are pesticide-free. Apples are $3 per bag. Extension poles and bags are available at the visitor center. Tree climbing is not allowed due to the age and fragile nature of the trees. Huber Grove at Wasatch Mountain State Park is a 130-year old homestead, built and settled by Johannes Huber and his family. Two original buildings remain on the grounds, along with part of the family’s original apple orchard, which once numbered more than 22,000 trees. Visitors to Huber Grove can learn about the historic farmhouse, creamery and orchard though interpretative signs. For more information, call (435) 654-1791.
