Earlier this year Emery County RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) introduced their “Walk to Hawaii program. RSVP Director, Betty Hatch said 130 seniors participated in the 6,000 mile walk to Hawaii and back.
On Sept. 11 the RSVP celebrated the completion of their “Walk to Hawaii” with a Hawaiian Luau, complete with a roasted pig dinner and Hawaiian entertainment. RSVP Program Director in Davis County, Jim Rae and Director of Senior Corp. Services with Volunteers of America Utah, Charlene Orchard from Salt Lake City were happy to come down and help our seniors celebrate their accomplishment.
Members of the Emery County RSVP Advisory Council (Sheila Sebring, Sylvia Nelson, Sue Lute, Jan Petersen, Jan Bess, Judy Palmer, LaMar Guymon, Marvin Gardner and Lou Sansevero) all helped to make the Luau a success.
To date the seniors have walked more than 14,000 miles and they are not stopping yet. Planning is under way to pick a destination for next year.
RSVP wishes to thank Marvin Gardner for his donation to the Luau.
