Caleb Larry Williams, 12, of Wellington, Utah started his journey back to Heavenly Father on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. While pursuing his goal of Eagle Scout, a sand cave collapsed on him at the Little Sahara National Recreation Area in Juab County.
Born on Jan. 18, 1996, in Payson, Utah to Ron and Kim (Cook) Williams. He was raised in Carbon County where his loving sisters, Sierra 14, Ronni 8, and Kennedy 4, all helped forge him into a boy beyond his years. He will be dearly missed by his parents, sisters, grandparents Larry and Pat (Tryon) Williams, Howard and Shirley (Nelson) Cook, and many more family and friends.
Caleb was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent many weekends with his family in the great outdoors. Caleb understood hard work and never cheated on himself when pursuing any goal he desired. He loved all sports and in particular wrestling, he also excelled at football and baseball.
Caleb possessed the heart, spirit and natural gifts of a world class athlete evident by his many freestyle, Greco Roman and folk style championships. Caleb was a 42 time All American, 32 time National Champion and 17 time Utah State Champion. During the 2007-2008 season his record of 152-12, included five State championships, 10 National titles and three Western Regional runner-up finishes. Such accomplishments helped him earn the 2008 Utah Wrestling Organization Wrestler of the Year Award. Caleb was the first Utahn to receive the American Crown Award, winning three Liberty Asics National Tournaments. He won the Rocky Mountain Nationals Triple Crown three times, Rocky Mountain Nationals Golden Gear twice, Rocky Mountain Nationals Golden Belt once. He won the World of Wrestling Trinity award which is the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy in football. He was named to the World of Wrestling All-Star first team. He earned the Triple Crown award at the USA Western Regional’s and AAU Nationals. He was named Outstanding Wrestler at many tournaments.
Caleb was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to spend time reading the scriptures, listening to church hymns, attending his meetings and loved all his teachers. He loved to serve the Lord. He always wanted his family to be by his side. He loved to spend time with his three sisters: Sierra, Ronni Lynn and Kennedy.
He is survived by his parents Ron and Kim Williams, sisters Sierra, Ronni Lynn and Kennedy, grandparents Larry and Pat Williams and Howard and Shirley Cook, great-grandma Elsie Williams, cousins Michael, Seth and Taylor Tryon, Ashley and Alex Tryon, Kim and Jessica Jenson, Tyler Cook and Devin Cook, Staci and Tori Shaw, and three special friends Ryan Atwood, Grant and Taylor Lamont. Preceded in death by great-grandparents Rex and Irene Tryon, Ronald Williams, Clifton and Alta Nelson and Kenneth and Pearl Cook.
Funeral services provided by Independent Funeral Services of Bountiful and Mitchell Funeral Home of Price. Viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday Sept. 26, 2008. Funeral Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at 12 Noon with viewing one hour prior all at the Wellington Stake Center. Burial at the Cliff View Cemetery, Price, Utah.
