Giles and Guymon head to state golf

The region 8 golf season came to a close last week with the final meet of the year held at the Carbon Country club and hosted by the Carbon Dinos. The host Carbon team won the tournament with a score of 310, five strokes ahead of second place finisher Juan Diego.
Delta was third with a score of 334 followed by Salem Hills shooting a 340, Emery shooting a 347 and North Sanpete shooting 368.
For the season, Carbon also finished first with a team score of 2275, 43 shots better than second place Juan Diego at 2318. Salem Hills finished third with 2375, Delta finished fourth with 2471, North Sanpete finished fifth with 2488 and Emery was sixth with 2507.
Carbon’s Jordan Pinedo shot a 73 to win with Alex Grange of Juan Diego shooting 75 for second place. Gage Bigelow of Carbon shot a 77 for third place and Mark Guymon of Emery shot a 78 for fourth place. Jason Giles of Emery shot a 79 to tie for fifth place.
Jason and Mark will now travel to the state tournament this Wednesday and play for the individual championship after finishing in the top 10 for the season. That tournament will be held at Soldier Hollow in Heber Valley.
Emery also finished the season with five of the 10 Academic All-State team members. They were Jason Giles, Casey Wood, Addison Collard, Justin Cox and Taylor Tanner.
Head Coach Kevin Reynolds, “This was a good group of kids. They were fun to be around and great to play golf with.”
