Last week, the Emery High volleyball team lost big to North Sanpete and Juan Diego. At Mt. Pleasant, Emery lost 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14. At home against the Soaring Eagles, Emery lost 25-14, 25-10 and 25-14. It was not a good week for the team.
Head Coach Kris Bell, “The girls recognize that they are not playing well. Before the region season started they were playing awesome but now, well right now, they are not. Maybe they are trying too hard. The trouble in losing the games that we have is not believing in ourselves. Those other teams have nothing on us, the girls just believe that they are better and they are not. We have to believe in ourselves.”
At North Sanpete, Emery was in the first game, tied at 14-14 but then it fell apart. At home against Juan Diego, Emery was in the first game at 7-9 and then it went to 9-17 as they made mistake after mistake. They were in the third game at 9-10 before it went to 10-16.
As a fan watching the Juan Diego game, you just wondered why so many serves were no good. Time after time they were long or in the net or out of bounds. Coach Bell again, “I cannot believe that we just served like we did. We practice all the time and they have been quite good this season.”
Emery now will host Salem Hills this Tuesday night and Delta this Thursday night as they try to right the ship. Coach Bell said, “We are better than we just have played. We have to relax and just play.”
