The Ferron/Price Ranger District will be implementing a prescribed burn approximately 5 miles northwest of the town of Emery located on the Pines plateau. The burn is scheduled to start as early as Thursday, December 4, 2008 and will continue until completed. The burn is expected to last approximately two days.
Prescribed fire is one of the proven tools used to accomplish a variety of resource benefits including improved wildlife habitat, vegetation regeneration, hazardous fuels reduction and to support ecosystem diversity.
To meet resource and safety concerns, prescribed fires must only occur when a specific set of conditions are met These conditions include favorable air, soil and vegetation moisture levels, temperatures, wind directions and speeds, smoke dispersal and expected fire behavior. The prescribed fire will only be ignited when fuel moistures and weather conditions are favorable.
Qualified fire personnel will use hand crews to ignite fire in the designated area and will monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished.
