Gabriel Sermon found Emery County online. As a result of his web surfing, he and his family are now residents of Castle Dale. Sermon is the newest physician’s assistant at Emery Medical Center.
When Sermon finished his education at the University of Utah, he was a physical therapist. A friend talked him into continuing on with his education and becoming a physicians assistant. He went on to Towson University in Maryland and did just that.
Gabriel and his wife Sally, were both raised in American Fork and returned there to work in that community. He began working as a part time PA while also working another job to support his growing family. He and Sally have five children ranging in age from 8 years to 2 1/2 weeks.
Gabriel continued to work the part time PA position while wishing he could move into full time. He found a full time position being advertised at Emery Medical Center. He applied and some time later was called for an interview.
Dr. Otto Dickman from Emery Medical Center interviewed Gabriel for the full time urgent care position and was he hired and began working there in late October of 2008. Gabriel began his search for housing for his family and soon purchased a home within walking distance of the clinic and moved his family here in mid November.
Sally, only a month from delivering the family’s fifth child, moved into the home on Center Street in Castle Dale. In mid December, she traveled back to Utah County where her obstetrician had scheduled the birth of Ryker who is now 2 1/2 weeks old. Ryker joined the Sermon children, Parker, 8, Chloe, 7, Kaydee, 4, and Peyton, 16 months in the new home in Castle Dale.
Gabriel is an avid mountain biker and is anxious and excited to explore Emery County. “Our family loves to do outdoor things such as camping,” he said. “We are all anxious to check out all that’s available in Emery County. This will be a great experience for all of us.”
Gabriel’s position at Emery Medical Center is a newly created position due to the volume of patient care being rendered there. “My family has been here just over a month and we just love it. Utah County has gotten too busy. It’s great here,” said Gabriel.
