Mike Olsen lawyer opens in Castle Dale and Price

Mike Olsen has hung out his shingle and gone into business for himself. He is Emery County’s newest lawyer and his new office is within the Farm Bureau Financial Services/Community Nursing building in Castle Dale.
Olsen said, “The name of my new office is Olsen Law Office, PC. I was born and raised in Castle Dale. My parents are Arthur and Shannon Olsen. I went to school in Emery County and graduated from Emery High in 1997. I married Jodi Leamaster who is the daughter of Darrel and LaRae Leamaster of Huntington.
“I did my undergraduate work at Southern Utah University and then went to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich. We were there for three years.
“Jodi and I have four children, Tyler, Brooklynn, Joshua and Matthew. We live in Castle Dale.
“My practice includes, family law: divorce, adoption and custody matters; criminal defense: DUI, drug offenses, burglary, etc.
“I will work to ensure that people’s rights are protected. It is important that these rights be protected for everyone. These rights are afforded to everyone, you can’t pick and choose who we give these rights to. If we did the system would fall apart.
“I became an attorney to defend the constitution. It’s a big part of it. It’s important to follow the rules. I want to defend those who have been accused of something they didn’t do and protect their rights and protect the innocent.
“Family law affects so many people. There isn’t anyone who hasn’t been affected by divorce. It is a highly emotional time for people. It’s good to have someone you know and someone you can trust and someone who knows the law during these times. I can deal with the issues that surround a divorce including property. The most important issue in a divorce is the children and who will retain custody of the children and how much time the parents will spend with the children. You need someone to protect your rights and advance your position. I am willing to be on your side,” said Olsen.
While attending SUU as an undergraduate, a professor approached Olsen and told him he thought Olsen would make a good attorney. He had the talent and the skill set to be a good one. So Olsen pursued this interest in law by job shadowing at a law firm in Cedar City. “This was a time for me to see what the law profession was all about and if I was interested enough to become an attorney. I was offered the job of a law clerk there in Cedar and worked there from 1999-2002. While working there I learned to love the legal field and found out I had a knack for it. I began pursuing a law career. I took the Law School Admittance Test and attended law school from 2003-06. I went to school full time and just immersed myself learning and studying law. After completion of law school we returned to Utah where I worked for a law firm in Salt Lake for a year. I liked it. I worked on a team handling large cases and I received training from some of the best and brightest attorneys in Utah. We also worked on real estate and water law which are among my favorite areas of practice.
“It was always our dream and intent to come home to Emery County. So, in 2007 we moved back to Castle Dale where I worked with local attorneys until now. I am opening up my own law practice which is what I have wanted to do from the beginning.
“My Emery County roots go deep. Both of my great grandfathers answered the call from Brigham Young in 1877 to settle Emery County. They were Henning Olsen and Orange Seely and my family has been here ever since. I love it here. I am the fifth generation to live in Emery County and we love it here. We love the mountains, the desert, and the biggest reason I wanted to move back was the community; the people who live here. I want everyone to have the same opportunities I have had by living here. I have lived in Florida, Michigan, South Dakota and I’ve visited a lot of places so I can say for sure this is a great place to live.
“I want to give my children the high quality of life that I’ve been given. I want them to be part of the community.
“I want to contribute to continue to make this a great place to live.

I have had several opportunities to represent many people here and I thank them for their business and their support and trust in me. I will continue to be available to represent the community in whatever aspect of the law they might need. I practice real estate law and can handle evictions. Water law is one of my favorite areas and I understand the issues that surround water and land in our area. I just love property disputes, contracts and evictions; they are my favorite cases to work on.
“We have just been welcomed back into the community wholeheartedly and my wife Jodi and I appreciate that. The kids love it here. We like to go horseback riding and I grew up on a farm so I love to ride horses and chase cows. We go camping, hunting and fishing. Our families are here and we enjoy spending time with them.
