Buck Horn District Klondike Derby (Winter Survival Camp)
Joe’s Valley west side Big Pavilion, on Feb.13-14. Registration will start at 4:30 p.m. Cost $5 per boy $2 per adult. Patch will be given to all in attendance. Three gift certificates will be awarded to the top three troops in the competitions. Things to bring for each troop: fire stand or barrel, fire wood and coal; water, toilet paper; 10’x10′ piece of plastic for everyone; compass for each boy; film canister or empty pill bottle or empty M&M tube; at least one fishing pole with one ounce weight; each boy can bring their own for the casting competition; camp chair if desired; and Class B uniform (no uniform inspection). Remember “Pack it in Pack it Out.”

Free Pilot Trial for Injured Veterans
A New Orleans doctor is looking for veterans of either the Iraq war or the war in Afghanistan who have suffered traumatic brain injury or post traumatic stress disorder to participate in a free pilot trial of treatment that so far has had 100 percent beneficial results. Veterans who qualify will be flown to the clinic (and home later) free, and sponsors are making lodging, meals and transportation available at vastly reduced rates. Utah Young Humanitarian Award Program
The purpose of this award is to recognize youth who excel at giving back to their communities and to inspire more youth to service. This award program which is in its fifth year, offers a $5,000 college scholarship and is open to all secondary and undergraduate college students in Utah, who are American citizens. Funding for the program is provided by Chase bank and Xmission internet services. Application packets have been mailed to scholarship counselors and service club leaders throughout the State. Utah State Courts Plan Judge For A Day Program Celebrating Lincoln’s Bicentennial
Students who believe TV dramas such as “Law and Order,” are an accurate depiction of how the courts operate can judge for themselves as part of the fourth annual Judge for a Day program offered by the Utah State Courts. The Judge for a Day program is organized by the state courts in recognition of Law Day, which is on May 1. The state court is asking Utah high schools to select a student to participate in the program based on an essay, civic involvement resume, or teacher nomination. Student essays should be written about the “A Legacy of Liberty: Celebrating Lincoln’s Bicentennial,” which is the 2009 Law Day theme. The Law Day theme is selected by the American Bar Association and will explore the role of law in fulfilling the promises of the Declaration of Independence. On May 1, 1958, Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day as a day of national dedication to the principle of government under law. Each student will shadow a judge in one of the state’s eight judicial districts in either April or May. The student will spend the day learning what it takes to become a judge, the duties a judge performs, and about the judicial branch of government. Schools are asked to submit an application form by March 6 to the Utah State Court’s public information officer, Nancy Volmer, at nancyv@email.utcourts.gov. Special Needs Swim Program
Registration will be held Feb. 24 at the Emery County Recreation Office for the children with special needs swim program. The program will run March 2-6 from 4-5 p.m. each day. Huntington City Dog Licenses
The Huntington City 2009 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented before license can be issued. Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Campground Host Wanted
The Emery County Recreation Special Service District is taking bids for a campground host at Bear Creek Campground. The host will perform various duties and will work under the direction of the Emery County Recreation director. The contract will begin April 5 and end Oct. 15. A bid packet may be picked up at the Emery County Recreation office at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. All bids must be turned into Emery County Recreation by March 6 at 5 p.m.

The Emery County Fair is now accepting applications for food and general vendors for the Emery County Fair which will be held on Aug. 6-8. Valentine Carnival
The 14th annual Huntington Elementary PTA Valentine Carnival will be held on Feb. 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Huntington Elementary gym. Tickets will be 10 for $1. There will be food, games and fun. The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify.
