HURRICANE, UTAH – Hazel Pearl Owens was born to Thomas and Mary Gould Canova on Aug. 27, 1913 in Jacksonville, Fla. She married Walter Allen Staley on March 12, 1934. She and Walt, a career Navy man, were together until his death on Jan. 16, 1988. Later she served on a LDS mission to Baton Rouge, La.
After her return, she married Robert W. Owens on Oct. 20, 1990. He preceded her in death in September of 2007. She is survived by a son, David, and a daughter, Geraldine, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She impacted many people for good through her church work, and particularly her Book of Mormon Project which filled her life for more than 35 years. Her habit of kindness and service to others has earned her many friendships which have spanned a lifetime.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd. Visitations were Friday, Feb. 6, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to services at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment was at the Hurricane City Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 3:30 p.m. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
