Mancos Resources Inc. has signed an escrow agreement with Castleland Resource Conservation and Development, Inc., for the purchase of “Lot One” in Emery County’s “Mancos Hills Industrial Park,” approximately six miles northwest of Green River. This is an important step in MRI’s development of a state-of-the-art uranium mill complex at the Green River site.
Signing the escrow agreement is the culmination of a yearlong site selection process of applying a rigorous set of selection criteria. MRI’s criteria focused on human safety and environmental protection through, and in part: geographic, physiographic, and geologic characteristics. the mill complex will include permanent on-site tailings disposal; applying the US Department of Energy’s “Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project” design currently being used at Crescent Junction. The UMTRA facility is the final disposal site for tailings relocated from the historic mill near Moab.
MRI’s proposed mill complex will be designed to process 1,200 tons per day, with the potential for scaling up to 1,800 tons per day, or more. The project is in the permitting and design phase, with an estimated start up date in 2012.
Public consultation, baseline environmental, and geotechnical assessments have begun and MRI has also commenced the selection process for design-build engineering firms.
