HANKSVILLE-Denise Nancy Powell Johnson, 53, passed away April 16, 2009, at home surrounded by her family. Denise was born May 2, 1955, in Price, Utah to Alma Owen and Betty Hudson Powell, Price, Utah. She married David Peter Johnson Aug. 26, 1976, in the Manti Utah LDS Temple.
Denise graduated from Carbon High in 1973. She happily served in many callings in the LDS Church. She was a Relief Society president, Primary president, Young Women’s leader, Nursery leader, and many more. She especially loved the nursery because she served with her dear husband.
Denise owned and managed both a convenience store and grocery store at the same time. She was a great support and strength to many friends and was loved by the community. She was dedicated to her work and remained busy and very active. She was very talented at sewing, crafts, and bookkeeping.
Denise is survived by her husband, Pete Johnson, Hanksville, Utah; they are the parents of four children: Tiffani and Howard Turley, Mesa, Ariz; Pamela and Ted Peterson, Lyman, Utah; David and Desiree Johnson, Hanksville, Utah; Jill and Douglas Stewart, Koosharem, Utah; proud grandparents of three grandchildren, TJ Peterson, Aiden Allred, and Tatum Turley; also survived by her mother Betty Powell, brother, Brent Powell, twin sister, Doreen (Scott) Strong all of Price, Utah; sister, Susan (Darren) Stucki, St. George, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 1 p.m., in the Hanksville LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop George Peterson officiating. A visitation was held Monday evening from 5-7 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price and Tuesday from 11-12:30 p.m. in Hanksville. Interment: Hanksville Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
