The Miss Emery Celebrity Golf tournament will be on May 9 at 9 a.m. at the Millsite Golf Course in Ferron. Sponsored by Emery Recreation District and the Millsite Mens Association. Four person scramble, $200 per team. Includes all fees and a lunch. Raffle tickets for a driver and other prizes on sale. Hole in one on Hole 5 wins a new car. National Anthem Auditions


The Desertview Pro Rodeo and Emery County Fair will be holding auditions for a solo, duo or group to sing the National Anthem. Auditions will be held May 12 @ 7 p.m. for more information on location and to register, please contact the Emery County Recreation office at 435-381-2108.

Food Handler’s Classes


There will be Food Handler’s Classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price, on April 22, May 12 and June 16 at 9 a.m. and 4 & 7 p.m., 28 S. 100 E. In Castle Dale, on May 13 and June 17 at 4 & 7 p.m., 25 W. ACT Test


The next ACT achievement test will be administered on June 13, 2009. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by May 8, 2009. Late registration deadline is available May 9 -22, 2009 for an extra fee. Students may register online at www.actstudent.org or pick up registration forms from high school counseling offices.

Miss Emery

at the Huntington Senior Center April 23 6:00pm $10.00 donation for the meal door prices The election for county officers for the coming two years.The Emery County Democrats will be holding their county convention and dinner on Thursday, April 23 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center (175 West 100 North in Huntington). ALL INTERESTED PEOPLE ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. County party officers will be elected and local and state party leaders will speak. Dinner, entertainment and prize drawing will also be provided. Engineering State


Utah State University hosts the 20th annual Engineering State program June 8-11 for all local, national and international high school students. The application deadline has been extended until April 10. The $100 registration fee covers housing for the week in university housing and all meals. Qualified applicants must be high school students entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2009, have a strong interest in math, science, technology or aviation and display citizenship excellence on their scholastic record. Miss Castle Dale pageant


Castle Dale girls ages 4-21 to be contestants in the Miss Castle Dale Pageant. Contestants MUST live in Castle Dale. Each contestant will be judged on Appearance, Talent, and Interview. To ensure a successful experience, an opportunity will be given to each participant to practice prior to The pageant. The age divisions will be 4 to 7 Tiny tot Princess, Ages 8 to 12 Little Miss Castle Dale, Ages 13 to 16 Junior Miss Castle Dale, and 17 to 21 Miss Castle Dale. The winners Of each age division will participate in parades and Castle Dale City Celebrations throughout the year. The Miss Castle Dale Pageant will be Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Emery High School Auditorium. The Deadline to enter the pageant is May 18. California Elementary Student Seeks Utah Information

Ferron Offers Tree Planting Workshop


This workshop is sponsored by TreeUtah. Ferron was awarded $1,500 to plant trees in the city. Volunteers are needed to plant these trees at the north entrance to the fairgrounds. It will be held April 28 at 6 p.m. Bring rakes, shovels and gloves. This will be a great service project in honor of Arbor Day.

Active and Retired Miners


The Miners Hospital will sponsor an educational program for active and retired miners and their families May 6, 7-8:30 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Center, 100 North 200 West in Huntington. Brooke Hammond, Aud, CCC-A, FAAA, will talk on the prevention, identification and management of hearing loss.

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier


Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. Class Of 1989 Reunion

Millsite Ladies Golf League Opening Social


The opening social for the Millsite Ladies Golf league will be held April 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Millsite Clubhouse. A light dinner will be served. All new ideas will be welcomed regarding schedule and etc. Encourage all the ladies you know to come and join, while learning the game of golf. Membership is $25 and will include a T-shirt with the association name printed on the front. Sizes and team colors, as well as dues will be discussed at the social. Health Care Camp


High School students interested in a future health care career are welcome to participate in the Health Career Exploration Camp at Southern Utah University. The camp will take place June 8 – 10 and is open to all 9th – 12th grade high school students. Cost for the camp is $70.00, which includes housing during the camp at The Eccles Living Learning Center, meals, workshop supplies and a camp t-shirt. Scholarships are available to waive the cost of camp for individuals who qualify based on household income. Transportation to and from Southern Utah University is up to the individual attendee. Huntington RUCD Head Start Open Enrollment


Huntington Head Start is holding open enrollment is March and April. Head Start is a free pre-school serving all of Emery County from Ferron to Elmo. Students are bused to and from school, served two hot meals, receive health services and lots of fun. Call 687-5301 to enroll.

Cleveland Town Spring Burn Season


The Cleveland Town Spring Burn Season is from March 28th to April 26th, 2009.Permits are available at the Town Office, 100 W. Main, Cleveland, Ut. Everyone must obtain a permit prior to burning. There are no fees for a burn permit. Allowable material: dry weeds, garden waste, irrigation ditches, tree limbs (under 6 inches in diameter) tree and shrub trimmings, scrap lumber (untreated). Learn To Be Self Sufficient


A class which teaches self sufficiency and using home food storage is being taught at the Courthouse in Castle Dale on April 7 and 16 at noon. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring a pot luck dish.

Emery County Relay For Life


It is now time to sign up your team for this years Emery County Relay for Life Cancer walk. It will take place on June 12-13 at the Emery High School. The next meeting will be held on March 26. We will later post where the meeting will be held. If you sign up your team by the 15th of March the registration fee will be $50. After this date, the registration will be $100 for a team. Utah Trail Machine Association Annual Clean-up Day At Five Mile Pass


This years event, dubbed “High Five” will be held May 23. This event is a demonstration of the UTMA’s committment to good citizenship and responsible behavior. In addition to clean-up work we will be promoting safety and family-oriented recreational OHV activities. The trail rides at the end of the day will be educational as well as fun. They are welcoming 70+ OHV clubs and associations in Utah to join us and we’re presenting this event in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Managment and the Utah Department of Natural Resources.

A New Orleans doctor is looking for veterans of either the Iraq war or the war in Afghanistan who have suffered traumatic brain injury or post traumatic stress disorder to participate in a free pilot trial of treatment that so far has had 100 percent beneficial results. Power Wheelchairs Available


The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self propel a manual wheelchair and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.
