SPRING GLEN/HELPER/SANDY-Elsie Vuksinick Anderson, 80, passed away at her home in Mesquite, Nev. on March 10, 2009. She was born March 23, 1928 in Rolapp, Utah to Rudolph and Annie Sterlekar Vuksinick.
She was the daughter of a coal miner and grew up in the coal mining towns of Carbon County. Her mother ran a boarding house for miners and here she learned the value of hard work and her many talented homemaking skills.
She played the accordion while her brother Rudy played the guitar. They would entertain the coal miners in the hopes of making their fortune, remember $1 was a lot of money back then. She was an excellent cook and made the best potice bread. Her family always looked forward to a loaf for Christmas.
She loved to dance the polka at the old Polka Palace in Spring Glen. She was proud of her Slovenian heritage and passed this on to her children.
Married Wendell Wharff in 1946. They lived in Castle Gate, Utah and later moved to Spring Glen, Utah. After their divorce, she worked two jobs to raise her threedaughters. She worked at the Price Floral and also the Price Medical Center.
She married Max Anderson on Jan. 26, 1964 in Elko, Nev. and moved to Sandy, Utah where she was blessed with another daughter.
She was manager at Ziniks’ Cottonwood Mall until it closed; then she managed a children’s clothing store, Mini World.
Elsie moved to Mesquite, Nev. 12 years ago from Sandy, Utah. She was manager for the Eureka gift shop until she retired at the age of 77. Proceeded in death by her husband Max, parents Rudy and Annie Vuksinick of Spring Glen, Utah, and most recent, her dear nephew Jay Jeffs of Castle Dale, Utah.
She is survived by her four daughters: Linda (Jim) McKee of Milburn, Utah; Wendy (Gene) Short of Sandy, Utah; Carrie (Mike) Cannell of Mesquite, Nev.; Jolene (Gary) Kretschmann of Mesquite, Nev.; one brother, Rudy (Mildred) Vuksinick of Orem, Utah; sister in-law Stella Reed of Castle Dale, Utah, sister in-law, Pearl (Harvey) Brinkerhoff of Lawrence, Utah; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she always cherished their visits to Mesquite.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. May 2, 2009, at Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State, Sandy, Utah. Celebration of her life for family and friends one half hour prior to the services or after the services at the home of Wendy Short in Sandy.
