"Colby Snow scores for Emery against Delta."

By GARY ARRINGTON Sports writer

It was so easy one game to put runs on the board but nearly impossible the next as the Emery High baseball team split their region games for the week. Emery defeated Delta 20-3 on Tuesday and then lost at Salem Hills 4-1.
Against Salem Hills, Emery had their opportunities but nothing much worked out. For example, in the fifth inning Emery had Gatlan Huntington and Jason Giles on base when Nevin Jensen lined a long hit over the left fielder’s head for an apparent extra base hit, only to have it nullified by a balk call by the home umpire.
Emery was down 2-1 at this point and would have grabbed the lead.
Derrick Allred scored the only run of the game for Emery when he doubled to lead off the fifth inning and eventually worked his way home.
Salem Hills scored twice in the second inning and twice more in the sixth inning as Huntington went the distance on the mound for the Spartans.
In the Delta game, Emery scored 11 runs in the first inning to put the Rabbits away early. Huntington doubled to lead off the inning followed by Giles doubling. Jensen singled, Addison Collard doubled, Allred singled, Collard singled and Taylor Tanner tripled for the base hits in the inning.
In addition, Tanner, Huntington and Jensen all drew walks in the inning and Kashe Jewkes got hit by a pitch.
Emery added three more runs in the second inning and six more runs in the fourth inning. In the second inning, Allred hit a homerun to lead off the inning with Brett Mecham following up with a double. Jewkes then doubled followed by Huntington and Giles walking. Jensen hit into a fielders choice to score the last run of the inning.
In the fourth inning, Jewkes got a base on balls to lead off the inning with Huntington singling to right field as the next batter. The Rabbit third baseman then made an error on Jensen’s ball to allow Nevin to get on base. Tanner singled to right field with Colby Snow then walking and Brett Mecham singling to left field to get the last RBI of the game.
Emery is entering the final week of region play and will play three games this week. Region contest’s against Carbon, North Sanpete and Delta will test the Spartans as they look to the region championship.
Juan Diego has a one-game lead but a Salem Hills victory this week over Juan Diego along with Emery winning all three games could really jumble up the play-off picture as Emery, Salem Hills and Juan Diego would all be tied for first place.
