SALT LAKE/PRICE-Our loving sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend, Marie-Louise Cances, age 92, died May 5, 2009 in Price. She was born Sept. 2, 1916 in Sunnyside, Utah to Emile B. and Louise Laurent Cances. Marie Louise attended grade and high schools in Price, Utah and graduated from St. Mary of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City. She taught English and French at Roosevelt Junior High in Salt Lake City, and English and Spanish at Price Junior High. At the outbreak of World War II, she became a federal service employee and retired after serving 33 years in various government agencies in Utah, California and the Philippine Islands.
Upon retirement, Marie Louise did volunteer work at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Salt Lake City. In later years, she became a member of St. Ann’s Parish where she sang in the choir and enjoyed the Catholic Women’s Bowling League.
She is survived by her sister, Jeannette C. Welsh, Price, Utah and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who were always loved and appreciated for their care and consideration. Marie Louise is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Alice Oxarart and Leah (Sister Emile Louise, CSC); and brother, Emile J. Cances.
The Cances and Welsh families wish to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the personnel at the Heirloom Inn for the excellent services rendered to Marie Louise these past five years. Also a very grateful thank you to the Rocky Mountain Hospice team for their special services the past six weeks.
Funeral Mass, Tuesday, May 12, 2009, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Monday evening 7 p.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Family was at the church Monday and will be there also on Tuesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily.
In lieu of flowers, a fitting expression would be an offering to Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church.
