The Utah Academy of Physician Assistants, at its April 23-26 conference in Mesquite, Nev., presented its Rural Physician Assistant of the Year Award to Kim McFarlane, Green River, sole provider of medical care since January 2005. A graduate of the University of Utah’s Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, Kim has served in the Utah communities of Draper and Bear Lake before settling in Green River.
As medical director of the Green River Medical Clinic, a federally qualified community health center, he works independently with physician supervision provided on-site for one-half day per month. The clinic, the only licensed medical provider within a 110-mile radius, serves all persons including the uninsured and underserved. It handles chronic, urgent and emergency care and provides a full spectrum of out-patient medical services. Kim’s dedicated commitment to the community ensures its residents, travelers and seasonal population receive after hours emergency care.
Kim’s extensive medical background includes experience in physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, antibiotic resistance study, and medical processes. He holds professional licensure and certifications as a Physician Assistant – Utah, DEA Registration, NCCPA certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support plus courses in ATLS and Pediatric Emergency. Involved in both state and national professional organizations, he continues to pursue continuing medical education and opportunities to better serve his community.
