Relay for Life


The Emery County American Cancer Society Relay for Life event will be on June 12-13 at 6 p.m. It’s never too soon to register for Relay 2009. Plan to help celebrate Relay’s 25th Anniversary. This year’s theme is “Kool for a Kure.” The Relay event starts with a kick-off dinner at 6 p.m. and ends with a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning. Former Sen. Jake Garn will be the key note speaker. Also speaking will be Heather Anderson the former Miss Utah 2007 and Hilary Gordon the Mayor of Huntington.The Ms. Relay competition; males competing for the crown, will be back again this year. The Relay for Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that empowers everyone to help fight cancer by raising money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission. Auditions “Beauty and the Beast”


Auditions for a production of Beauty and the Beast to be held in conjuction with the Emery County Fair on August 4, 5, 6, and 7 will be held on May 28 in the Emery High School chorus room at 5 p.m. Come prepared to sing the song of your choice, either by CD or a pianist will be available. Ages 8 and up are welcome to audition. For more information call 749-2127.

Emery High Girls Basketball Camp


June 1, 2, 3, at the Spartan Center. Eighth-12 grade, 9-11:30 a.m.-$35, elementary-seventh grade-12:30-2:30 p.m.- $30. Questions call Steven Gordon at749-9807 or 687-2373.

Summer Cheer Class


Summer cheer classes start June 15-29 at Larae’s Dance Studio. Ages 5-18 years. Learn cheer technique, tumbling, jumps, and age appropriate stunting. Register by June 1, call 687-2632.

Junior Cheer Clinic


Junior cheer clinic ages 5-11 yrs. May 28 and 29, 9 a.m. -12 noon at Larae’s Studio in Huntington. $25 first child, $20 second. Includes a T-shirt and snacks. Everyone is welcome. Register by May 25.

Emery all-Star Try-outs


Emery all-Star Cheerleqading Elites team try-outs. May 27 10 a.m. at Larae’s Studio in Huntington. Ages 10-18 years. Fees due upon making the team. This is for the Elite team only. Registration for all other cheer classis in September, no try-outs necessary. For more information call Becky at 687-2632.

Free Dance


Emery County Recreation ballroom dance class is sponsoring a “free dance” June 6, from 7-10 p.m, at the Emery County Recreation Center for ages 14 and up. DJ: Tyrell Jewkes. No chaperones will be provided. Three or more under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. Come and enjoy.

Register Now for the 4-H Education Camps


Any youth currently in ninth-12th grade that would like to participate in the 4-H Summer Education Camps, register as soon as possible. The camps are filling up fast and we have spaces for local youth to attend. The archaeology camp at Range Creek will be June 15-19 and the Paleontology camp is July 13-17. Music Festival


The Fifth Annual Desert Rocks Music Festival will be May 21-24. Check us out at: http:www.desertrocks.org The event takes place just outside of Moab. Tickets are currently on sale through May 19, $95 for four days of music and camping.

JR Nelson Open House


An open house will be held for JR Nelson in the foyer of the Emery High School auditorium on May 20, from 5-6 p.m. JR is retiring from the Emery School District and Emery High School faculty after over three decades of teaching and coaching. All current and former students, family and friends are welcome to the open house. Following the open house, the Emery High Senior Awards Program will be held in the auditorium at 6 p.m. That will be followed by Senior Talent Night at 7:30 p.m. After that, the Yearbook Stomp will take place in the old gym where the 2009 yearbooks will be distributed.

Mens and Womens Softball Registration


Men and Women softball team registrations are in progress. Register your team before May 19 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Mens league will begin May 26. Womens league will begin May 27. Call Emery County Recreation at 381-2108 for more information.

Volleyball Camp May 27-30 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.


Emery High Volleyball is hosting a volleyball camp from May 27-30 in the Spartan Center. This camp is for incoming seventh graders up to 12 grade. The camp is $100. This is an awesome opportunity for our girls, for more information or to sign up call Kris Bell by May 15. 748-2906 or 749-2239.

Vollyeball camp June 8-10 9 a.m. 12 p.m.


Emery High coaches and players will be hosting a skills camp June 8 – 10 for girls fourth through eighth grades. The camp will be held at San Rafael Junior High and the cost is $30. For more information or to sign up call Kris Bell, 748-2906 or 749-2239.

Junior Golf Clinic at Millsite Golf Course


A junior golf clinic will be held at Millsite Golf Course on June 1 from 8 a.m.-noon. for golfers 6-18 years old. T-shirts, golf balls, and lunch will be provided. This is a fund raiser for the Emery High golf team and the cost will be $10. Golf basics and etiquette will be taught. There will also be a fun raffle.
