EAST CARBON-VeLoye Gunderson DeFriez was born July 8, 1922 in Clear Creek, Utah. She died May 15, 2009. VeLoye was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived most of her adult life in East Carbon City and Moab, Utah. She worked for the National Park Service in Moab and retired after 20 years of faithful service. She was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in various callings for several Wards and Stakes for more than 25 years, including a Relief Society President for more than 25 years and two missions. She was always ready to serve her family, friends and anyone in need. VeLoye was loved by all her knew her and will be dearly missed.
She is Survived by her sons: Troy Clark DeFriez of Glen Burnie, Md., and Tim William DeFriez of Nashville, Tenn.; her sister: Belle Finley of Stevensville, Mont.; brother: Earl D. Gunderson of East Carbon, Utah; and seven grandchildren.
VeLoye was preceded in death by her husband Clark William DeFriez, in May of 2008.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the East Carbon LDS Chapel (145 Grassy Trail Drive). A viewing was Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Ferron City Cemetery at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
