PRICE-Leslie Charlene Cook Newby Henderson, age 78, passed away May 23, 2009 at home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1930 in Elmer, Mo. to Winfred Leonard Cook “Cookie”and Edythe May Haxton.
Married Bill Newby Sept. 23, 1950, and they enjoyed raising their four wonderful children. Leslie was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and she always spoke highly of her family and their accomplishments. In the fall of each year, her and Gramps would make the trip to Colorado to visit with her family. They loved these outings, but they were cut short after Bill’s passing on Dec.13, 1989.
On Oct. 11, 2000, she married her sweety, Dewey Henderson and they loved retreating to Arizona. This was a very exciting time for her, and during the flood of 2000 she was rescued to safety in the bucket of a front end loader. Dewey preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2001.
Granny wasn’t about to stop living and she was fortunate to share the companionship of Gordon Craft for the past five years. Leslie and Gordon shared a home together, and fulfilled many life long dreams through their travels. They traveled immensely across the states by bus, plane and car. Upon returning from their trips, she could hardly wait to show everyone the rolls of 10 (or more) pictures they took, and what their plans were for the next big adventure.
Leslie was a member of the Price Chapel-CMA. She was a longtime volunteer of the Carbon County Senior Center. In her 70s, she returned to the College of Eastern Utah to further her education. She was greatly loved by her family and will be sorely missed by all. No one will ever fill Granny’s shoes.
She is survived by her sweetheart, Gordon Craft, Price; sister, Wanda (Richard) Watkins, Ridgeway, Colo.; one daughter and three sons, Dona (Allen) Nay, Kansas City, Mo.; Billy Newby, Tremonton, Utah, Larry (Sue) Newby, Johnny Newby, both of Price; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many loving step-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services, were held, Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 1:30 p.m., at the Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
