PRICE- Irene B. Mezek, age 84, passed away June 11, 2009 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
She was born Aug. 26, 1924 in Price, Utah to Charles and Margaret Cariano Bonomo.
Married Frank Mezek, Sept. 21, 1947 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price; he died July 19, 1997.
Irene attended Notre Dame Grade School and graduated from Carbon High School. Irene started to work for JC Penny Company where she left behind a community of friends and retired in 1991 after 49 years of dedicated service. She was involved in the bowling community of Price, where she bowled for “Mitchell’s Mummies” for many years. She loved to travel and over the years she attended many tournaments throughout the country. Once she was no longer able to bowl she volunteered many hours of her time.
Irene was inducted to the King Koal-Woman’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame for her meritorious service in 2001. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; great-grand nieces and nephews; great-great- grand family; and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rudolph and Fred Bonomo; sisters, Mary Cuburu Jones, Albena Veltri; Katherine Potter.
Funeral Mass, Tuesday, June 16, 2009, 10 a.m. Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church.
Vigil service, Monday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Committal, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
