On July 15, on a pleasant morning in Green River, a few Annika Sorenstam or Tiger Woods wanna-be’s headed out to the tees and greens of the Green River golf course for a tournament marking the end of the Junior golf program for the summer of 2009.
The Junior golf program was headed by Green River High School golf coach Rob Maughan and was assisted by Rebecca Bastian of the Green River golf course, Tab Weihing of Emery County Recreation District and a guest appearance by Jordan Leonard of Millsite golf course added to the program instruction.
The players were placed into flights based on past playing performance and ability. The players played different holes and a few ‘play-off’ holes needed to be played to break a tie or two.
Each of the kids had a great time and based on the players faces, it was hard to tell if it was the spirit of competition or the ice cream they ate after the tournament that gave them the biggest smiles.
