FERRON-Donald H. Olsen, age 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at Mountain View Health Services in Ogden.
He was born July 4, 1920 in Ferron, Utah to J. Leonard and Myrtle Thompson Olsen.
Don married his soul mate Norma Spindoth, and they enjoyed many wonderful places before her passing on Dec. 7, 1995.
Don served in the US Army and shortly after being discharged he moved to California where he worked as a chef. After years in California, they moved to Alaska where Don went to work on the Army Base. They fell in love with Alaska and the people, and became foster parents to many of the Native children. These bonds lasted a lifetime and many were saddened to learn of his passing.
Don enjoyed bowling and golfing. He spent his retirement years in Arizona, St. George and when his health began to decline he returned home to be closer to family.
He is survived by his sister, Leah (Bill) Krompel, Price; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters, Douglas, Dee, Aleen and Elsie.
Funeral service, Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, 1 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Friday one half prior to service. Don waslaid to rest in the Ferron City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
