This Emery High volleyball team has spent the season so far establishing their identity as a team that plays together and plays focused throughout the entire match. As last week’s games show, they still have work to do. Emery defeated North Sevier 25-23, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-19. Emery then lost to Uintah 18-25, 8-25 and 19-25.
After playing well against Union the week before, Emery still showed signs of good play against North Sevier at Salina before coming home and not looking very good at all against the Utes.
Coach Kris Bell, “It is a good thing that this was a pre-season match. This was not what we are trying to do. We need to stay focused and we need to keep doing the good things that we have been working on and doing.”
Against Uintah, with Markette Tanner serving, Emery scored the first six points of the first game, still led 12-10 before it all came apart. Uintah tied the score at 13-13 and led 16-13. Uintah got to a 21-15 lead and then won the game.
In the second game, Uintah led 5-4 before the Utes scored 16 of the next 17 points to put the game away. Emery kept the third game close at 8-10 before Uintah gradually pulled away for an easy win.
Against North Sevier, Emery played evenly with the Wolves until they grabbed the lead at 19-16 and then won the close game that opened the match. In the second game, North Sevier trailed the entire game and lost by five.
After playing a little less determined in the third game, Emery came back in game four and took the early lead and won easily at the end.
