Huntington City hires new recorder

The Huntington City Council last Wednesday night approved the hiring of Ronni Torre as the new Huntington City recorder.
Torre, who had been working for about a week to get up to speed on city business, was hired to replace Jimie Dawn Jones who had resigned to take a job with Workforce Services.
The council unanimously approved Torre.
In other business of the night, Mayor Hilary Gordon reported that Huntington City’s sewer lagoons have been a topic of local residents, especially residents of Lawrence, because of the unpleasant smell emitted from those lagoons.
The Castle Valley Special Service District manages the lagoons and the district has addressed the problem by turning on more aerators in the lagoons.
The District is applying to the CIB for more funds to buy more aerators for the sewer ponds.
The mayor also reported Utah DOT is finishing the sidewalk on the east side of Main street between 300 South and the Lawrence road. UDOT had to get permission from the Desert Edge Christian Church to cross their land.
UDOT is also putting five more ADA ramps in Huntington although they have yet to identify the corners where they will be installed.
Councilperson Julie Jones reported that Martin Tyner, the raptor rehabilitator who worked with the eagle released two years ago in Huntington Canyon in conjunction with the Crandall Canyon accident, will be putting on a program Oct. 22 at Canyon View Junior High starting between 6:30 and 7 pm. He will have a falcon and an eagle along with other birds.
Councilperson Bob Mills reported Percy and Janice Mounteer have requested that Huntington City designate their properties on Main Street as historical buildings. The Star Grill building is old enough to qualify but the Star Theatre is not. Buildings have to be at least 100 years old.
Councilperson Jerry Livingston reported the sidewalk projects are progressing and that he has been pleasantly surprised with the amount of people already using those walks on a regular basis. The new sidewalks leading to the junior high along the new road are almost finished.
Councilperson Cathy Cowley reported the splash pad is working again and they have the problems figured out. It has been a constant battle but the pad has been used well by local residents.
