Softball Complex Lost and Found Items
Lost and found items from the Emery County Softball Complex can be viewed and picked up at the Emery County Recreation office at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale. Gloves, coats, jackets, blankets, sunglasses etc. will be on display for the next couple weeks, after which they will be discarded or given to charity. A Night With Birds Of Prey
Date and time: Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Canyon View Junior High. Free to all. Martin Tyner with the Southwest Wildlife Foundation is bringing an eagle, falcon and hawk. Martin is also the gentlemen who brought an eagle for the Crandall families to release on the skyline. His book entitled “Healer of Angels” will be available to purchase for $17.99 with a book signing after the presentation.
Chili Cook-off And Pumpkin Painting/Carving Contest
Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. atHuntington Town Hall.
Chili Cook-off – Pick up your Chili Cook-Off entry form at Huntington City Hall, entry forms must be turned in at Huntington City Hall by 5 p.m. Oct. 26. Chili categories: traditional/classic, original/new, great taste, hottest in taste and peoples choice. Contestants for the Chili Cook-Off need to be at Town Hall by 4:30 p.m. for judging. Chili will be served to the public at 6 p.m.
Pumpkin Contest – Bring your carved or painted pumpkin to Huntington Town Hall by 5:30 p.m. to be judged. The different age divisions are: 5-11, 12-14, 15-17 and 18-99. The 3-5 year olds will be given a pumpkin to paint.

Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival
How far can you launch a pumpkin? Find out on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. Build a pumpkin launcher as a group or individual to see who can chuck their pumpkin the farthest. Each launcher will have three attempts to chuck an eight-10 pound pumpkin. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team or participant. Devices must be portable. All participants must pre-register by Nov. 2. There will also be a pumpkin carving contest and other fun games, food and information. The Cleveland Town Fall Burn Season Oct. 3- Nov. 1
Permits are available at the Town Office, 100 West Main, Cleveland. Everyone must obtain a permit prior to burning. There are no fees for a burn permit. Allowable material: dry weeds, garden waste, tree limbs (under six inches in diameter) tree and shrub trimmings, scrap lumber (untreated). Any questions, call the Town Office, 653-2310
2009 Ferron Scarecrow Contest
Participants must pre-register at City Hall. Display locations will be assigned at time of registration. The contest is open to individuals, businesses, organizations, and clubs. There is no fee to enter. Hand-deliver your entry form to The Ferron City Hall or use the night drop. Entries must be received by Oct.14. Scarecrows may go up anytime between Oct. 1-15. The scarecrow contest is family friendly. Scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, or loveable and not frightening. Judging is Nov. 9-10. Winners will be announced Nov. 11. The Emery County Landfill is requesting that these items not be placed in the dumpsters that are used for the spring and fall clean-ups; tires, batteries, oil, no liquid of any type such as paint, terpentine, etc., pesticides, cement, and refrigerators.
A person can be fined up $12,000 from the State of Utah for mixing these appliances in with regular refuse because of the freon.

Hearing and Speech screening
Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screening to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a re-test in 3 to 4 weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District Speech-Language Pathologists administer the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing.
