APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZ.-Don B. Kofford, age 88, passed peacefully away Oct. 17, 2009, in Apache Junction, Ariz. Don was born May 1, 1921, the son of Clayton and Annie Sydonia Gould Kofford. He married Lylas Grange on July 31, 1941, in the Manti LDS Temple.
Don served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in North Africa. He was the Emery County Sheriff from 1950-1959, and from 1959-1978 was a Sergeant, Captain and then Chief of Police in Page, Ariz. for the USBR Rangers and then for the City of Page after it was incorporated in 1975. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy.
He also worked for the Bechtel Corporation from 1978-1986 as Director of Security on power plant construction on the Intermountain Power Project in Delta, Utah and the Lake Charles Project in Sulpher, La.
He was active in the LDS Church where he served in numerous callings including two missions with his wife for two years in the Denver Colo. LDS Temple and a one year mission at the Atlanta Ga. LDS Temple.
He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fly-fishing, and, in his younger years, trapping. He also loved to watch football, but the most important thing in his life was his family.
Don is survived by his four children: Gary (Glenna) Kofford of Castle Dale, Utah, Kay (Florence) Kofford of Apache Junction, Ariz., JoAnn Kofford and husband Dale Kison of Colstrip, Mont., and Pat (David) Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lylas; his parents; two brothers: Rex and Newel Kofford; and a great-grandchild, Macklain Kofford.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale LDS Eighth North Building (165 West 800 North). There will be a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery.
