Sherrel Ward reported in the November Emery County Public Lands Council that things are very dry when it comes to water in the county. The water year ends on Oct. 1 each year. The water year just concluded saw the basinwide average at 81 percent of average. Since that time there has been very little precipitation in the county. Seely Creek is at 33 percent of average; Buckflat 0 percent; Mammoth-Cottonwood- 20 percent for a basinwide average of 19 percent of normal.
Ward said a bright spot in the picture is the carryover in the reservoirs. He said he hasn’t seen the reservoirs this full at this time of year. Currently Cleveland Reservoir is at 61 percent capacity; Miller’s Flat at 15 percent due to the work on the dam there; Huntington North 57 percent; Joe’s Valley-66 percent, Electric Lake-79 percent; Huntington-73 percent and Millsite Reservoir-54 percent.
Ward said precipitation is desperately needed and the only thing he could suggest was to pray for rain and snow.
